WEDA Builds on Its Legacy to Advance New Legislative Opportunity

Who would have thought that a tap on the shoulder and the offer of a granola bar would be indicative of the top flight skill and service WEDA has benefited from in our charter lobbying firm the Hamilton Consulting Group? Not I; yet, this moment during the September 9 WEDC audit hearing unexpectedly captured for me the essence of what makes Hamilton special—the rare capacity to intuitively and precisely know what ingredients are required in any given situation to achieve consistent success.

Such capacity will remain a hallmark for WEDA’s legislative efforts as we transition our collaborative relationship with Hamilton to new legislative contracts and partnerships.

Membership – Get Involved in Delivering WEDA’s Value Proposition

Over the past year, the WEDA Board of Directors and staff have focused on ways to bring greater value to our members; value that provides a greater impact on the field of economic development. Several new activities will be added in 2016 to enhance deliverables to the membership. These activities will provide value to even the most advanced practitioner, while also providing tools for communicating, educating and implementing best practices that could benefit Wisconsin communities.

Audit Committee Holds Hearing on 2015 WEDC Audit

The Joint Legislative Audit Committee met on Wednesday, September 9, to discuss the findings of the Legislative Audit Bureau’s (LAB) audit of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC), released in May of this year. WEDA members presented extensive testimony that hit on nearly all of the points committee members raised while questioning the LAB, WEDC and WEDC Board members.

Senator Rob Cowles (R-Green Bay) chaired the hearing and kicked it off by asking LAB if any improvements have been made since the 2006 audit. LAB responded improvements had been made, specifically in the areas of policies governing grants and loans, financial management and data collection.

You can read WEDA’s written testimony here.
