Basic Economic Development Course

UPDATE: The highly regarded Basic Economic Development Course (BEDC) will be held virtually in 2020 from Sept. 14th (10:00 AM) through Sept. 18th 2020 (1:00 PM). This course provides expert instruction in the basic concepts, theories and methods of economic development from experienced professionals and instructors.
Participants will study the core building blocks of economic development, including:
- Economic development finance
- Managing a local economic development organization
- Small business development & entrepreneurship
- Business attraction and retention
- Community and neighborhood development
- Workforce development
- Real estate development
The BEDC is essential for economic developers, public officials and others seeking a basic, yet intensive overview of economic development. Graduation from the Wisconsin BEDC fulfills one of the prerequisites for those who wish to pursue the Certified Economic Developer Designation (CEcD) through the International Economic Development Council (IEDC).
The five-day course will be held virtually with most of the instruction occurring in 4 hour blocks with a 15 minute break between sessions.
