The Wisconsin Economic Development Association (WEDA) today presented Rep. Jeff Mursau (R-Crivitz) with the 2020 “Champion of Economic Development” award for his leadership on legislative initiatives to drive economic growth and prosperity in Wisconsin. The award was presented at inVenture North, the central resource for economic and community development in Marinette and Menominee Counties.

The award is presented to state legislators who exemplify WEDA’s mission of promoting economic development and are committed to making Wisconsin a better place to live, work and do business through effective policies. Rep. Mursau earned the “Champion of Economic Development” designation for his work on key legislation during the 2019-20 legislative session, including Opportunity Zones legislation to keep capital investment dollars in Wisconsin, a bill to boost funding for transportation projects that stimulate economic growth and efforts to address Wisconsin’s workforce housing shortage.

“Representative Mursau is a passionate advocate for economic development in the legislature, working to advance policies and programs that spur economic growth and create new opportunities for rural Wisconsin,“ said Michael Welsh, WEDA Legislative Affairs Director. “His leadership during the session on critical proposals to encourage new investment and expanded economic activity will help provide new avenues for growth in communities across the state.”

WEDA is presenting the award to 21 state lawmakers who exhibited an exceptional commitment to growing Wisconsin’s economy based on several factors, including voting record, sponsorship of legislation and responsiveness to critical economic development issues during the 2019-20 session.

“The Wisconsin Economic Development Association and our members are excited to recognize Rep. Mursau as a ‘Champion of Economic Development’ for his work on pro-growth policies and commitment to advancing Wisconsin’s economy,” said Brian Doudna, WEDA Executive Director.  “We also want to thank inVenture North for hosting the award presentation.”
